MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
Southern Shakespeare Company
In Shakespeare’s Much Ado everyone seems willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want . . . except to be direct, tell the truth, and confide in the right person. Instead, they prank, tease, pretend, misdirect and misuse. In a painterly fairytale villa on the coast of 16th-century Sicily, schemes and scams and games are played, people pretend to be who and what they are not, sometimes with painful results. These extreme diversionary tactics are generally employed to avoid candidly saying “I love you.”
Villa of the governor of Messina: Shakespeare in Cascades Park, sunset into nighttime (3D flyaround)
Designed 100% remotely during the pandemic winter of 2021-22, the set, amphitheater, and environment were modeled in extensive detail using Vectorworks, Photoshop and AfterEffects to communicate atmosphere and trompe-l'oeuil paint effects in a large outdoor venue.
Unforeseeable supply-chain issues and COVID-19 complications sadly prevented the set from being finished — but the show did go on.
This "double exposure" shows what our dedicated crew was able to accomplish, along with a digital glimpse of the remaining cosmetic elements.
